JOB TITLE: ACTIVITY WORKER
CLASSIFICATION: Activity Worker II (PC9)
Department: Activities
Work Area: Respite/Floors
Salary Range: As per Collective Agreement
Hours of Work: 1100-1900 Thurs and 0900-1700 Wed/Fri/Sat
Days Off: Sun-Tues
Employment Status: Temporary Part-time

ROLE SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator Lodge, positions at this level carry out an established activity program.

*** These positions are funded through the Respite Care Program and are considered to be "project" positions and are reviewed each year. During this term, successful candidates will be eligible for vacation and sick leave accruals which can be taken within the guidelines for Kiwanis Village HR policies. In addition, all benefits (including Dental and Extended Health) will be 100% employer-paid following the required 3 full month waiting period. If the positions conclude, incumbents do not have displacement rights and would return to their previous position or casual status. ***

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Carries out resident activity programs such as arts and crafts, sports, music, woodworking, cooking, gardening and exercises as directed; sets up and organizes furnishings and equipment for activity projects, teaches methods of related activities to residents, supervises resident activities and reports problems and/or changes to the Manager, Leisure Services.
  2. Carries out residents’ activity programs outside the facility. Checks that resident has appropriate clothing and equipment for the activity. Co-ordinates the movement of residents during the activity and teaches method of related activities.
  3. Provides direction to volunteers during activity programs and demonstrates related methods as required.
  4. Maintains inventory of equipment, tools and materials. Reports any problems to Recreation Coordinator Lodge.
  5. Drives designated vehicle for community outings as per facility standards. Completes pre-trip and post-trip inspection.
  6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Education, Training and Experience
  2. Grade 12, completion of a recognized Activity Assistant Program, plus two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  3. Valid BC Class IV driver’s license (unrestricted).
  4. Skills and Abilities
  5. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  6. Ability to deal with others effectively.
  7. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  8. Ability to teach.
  9. Ability to organize work.
  10. Ability to operate related equipment, such as an 11-25 passenger, lift equipped van.

Compensation

$29.83 per hour
